Students exhibiting were Jane Glue, Beccy May, Ruth Tait, Maureen McCubbin,
Sarah Wylie and myself. Of course this is just a small portion of the works
undertakening during the year but there was good variety of photography,

Degree Show 2016

Kirstin Wishart
Degree Show 2016
Orkney College UHI
13th-24th June
10 am-6 pm

                                                                Diagnosis
The primary catalyst for my recent work was motivated by my mother’s secondary breast cancer diagnosis. I have focused on the division and mutation of cellular forms, the delicate balance between creation and destruction.
Cancer is such a vast, life-changing thing that, in order to comprehend the disease and to try to understand something so complex, it has helped me to break things down to a very simple cellular level.
I work mostly in photography and film but also allow exploration of other media within my work. For me the process is just as important as the finished result – lead by a journey of experimentation, inspiration and development of ideas.

Installation
 Scan Results, Stage 1-4

When entering the gallery space we are faced with a long dark passage,
four light boxes led the way to a dead end. Kirstin states it as a reversed metaphor of
`light at the end of the tunnel`.

 Film
Division Rate

This hypnotic video depicting the separation and collision
of cellular forms was eerily beautiful.

Photography
Framed prints

Chemotherapy
Tumour
Mass (close-up of image)
These still images were amazing but their titles were a
disturbing reminder to what was being portrayed.

Automatic Drawings
Kirstin explains that these drawings are "an uncensored
expression of thoughts and feelings".

Life Expectancy                    Biopsy

Abnormality

From a very difficult subject matter, Kirstin has created
an extremely poignant and thought provoking installation.
Kirstin has done herself and her family proud.
She is an inspiration to us all!
