Stain Glass Course

6th April 2015

This was a one day course held at OC with tutor Anne Ferguson during which we learnt
techniques to design and make our own stain glass panel.

I took inspiration from Josef Albers stained-glass window produced for the
Sommerfield House, Berlin, Germany, unfortunately this was destroyed in a fire.

Maybe THIS is a bit ambitious for my first attempt at stained glass??
(and I only have one day!)

My `simplified` design, drawn to size, it measures about 8"x 4"

Choosing which glass to put where!!
This was really hard so many beautiful pieces to choose from!
Choice made and glass cut, ready for leading
Building up the panel with the lead came
Soldering joints(this has to be done on both sides),after soldering
you have to insert putty round every piece of glass under the lead(a very messy job)
when this is complete you clean off excess oil with plaster of Paris
and polish lead with black grate polish
Tah Dah! The finished piece!!
I am so chuffed with the final out come!

This was so much fun, I had a great day and was truly inspired with this art form.
Although I`m a long way off Josef Albers stained-glass window, I`m delighted with my panel
and you never know- start small, think big!!
