Summer holidays, Greece & Ben

Well what can I say.... these last two months have been particularly DRY as far as participating in any art activities is concerned! The school holiday means no time to seriously think, let alone make anything and the kids are not interested in going to exhibitions etc so needless to say (and for an easy life) I`ve not been to any hence why there`s been no entries to my blog!!
That said I did enjoy a fantastic sailing holiday to Greece which held an unexpected
surprise in our skipper Ben Pickersgill but more on that later............

Summer holiday 2016, Ionian Sea, Greece

This was our first time in Greece and what a wonderfully rustic and charming place it is.
We chartered a yacht and sailed round the islands for seven days, with beautiful scenery,
glorious weather, delicious food/ drink and lovely people, it was just an incredible experiance!!

One of the many small ports we stayed at.
Bruce taking the helm!
Thorfinn helping Ben hoist the main sail.
View from the sea of surrounding islands, the photo doesn`t do it justice
but colours & hues were stunning.
A popular anchorage for yachts were you can have lunch
and do a spot of swimming.

Did I mention the sharks!!
This one got more than he bargained for with Thorfinn!!LOL
We took the tender into this cave, it had some amazing rock formations
 and inside we found.......
these `stone sculptures`! Of course I added our
own one to the collection!!
My birthday treats, champagne and traditional
Greek cakes...mmmmm
That night we met the rest of our flotilla for a beach BBQ near
the abandoned village of Port Leone.
The town of Lefkas had lots of these quaint alley ways
and I loved the cool  Vespas!!
Wonderful old kirk in town centre.
Of course no holiday to Greece would be complete without
sampling their local drink, Ouzo! Cheers!!
Greece is well worth a visit and we`ll definitely be going back!!

I mentioned our skipper Ben Pickersgill earlier, on first meeting him I thought he
was really nice guy, good fun, laid back and very knowledgeable about sailing (as you`d expect)
but what I would never have guessed is that he was an artist with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art!
Ben is really talented and works mainly in oils here`s a look at some of his paintings
and a link to his website.

Ben`s parents trimaran in action which now hangs proudly on their wall.
